My students are an amazing group of kids. They are enthusiastic about school and embrace everything we do in class. They love reading, P.E., math, and science. Our school is a kindergarten through eighth grade school located in rural California. It serves 450 students. Our school is surrounded by forests and mountains and has daily visitors such as geese, turkeys, and deer.
Our school has a strong academic and athletic culture.
I want to maintain our strength in these areas by continuing to provide materials to enrich my students' experiences.
My Project
I am requesting a computer, sketchbooks, books about birds, potting soil, bird feeders, and bird books to research local birds.
Each year my students do a study on local birds.
Each child researches a bird, writes a report, learns how to sketch the bird, and enters the sketch into a bird drawing contest.
I am asking for a computer so students can do an internet search on the birds. The books are additional resources for researching. I also requested journals so students can sit in our outdoor classroom and watch birds, take notes and sketch what they see in the wild. The bird feeders will be placed outside the classroom windows for observations.
Students will be learning about life science and the importance birds have in our environment.
