My Students

My class of Kindergarteners is nothing short of amazing. We are constantly learning and growing as students. We utilize Whole Brain Teaching, which encourages movement, talking, and fun! We accommodate many different learning abilities and styles in my class.

My school is a Title I school in a poverty stricken area of Philadelphia.

100% of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch. These statistics do not, however, speak of their abilities and desire to learn. Funding, or lack thereof creates an opportunity gap, not an achievement gap. My students deserve any and all resources to help them succeed in school. With outdated, bulky, and slow computers, my students are not always able to access helpful learning sites. Our school is also 100 years old, so there is only 1 outlet in my room for all technology. These Kindle Fire Tablets would make learning easier, more accessible, and convenient.

My Project

I will be able to use these Kindle Fires for a various of purposes. I can use them during small groups to practice letter formation. We will use them to read books during guided reading, when there are no hard copies in the school. Students will be able to use them for independent work or centers when I am working with other students. The tablets can be used for more advanced students who finish early or for students who need more interventions. Any book that I do not have, we will be able to download instantly. There are many age appropriate apps that my students will be able to use, including a district approved literacy intervention program designed to help increase reading skills. The tablets will also eliminate the accidental 'right clicking' of a mouse or clicking too many icons on a desktop computer.

The world today is a constant evolution and progression of technology.

Unfortunately, my school district does not have the funds to keep up. My students deserve to be part of a world where they can access information and education at the speed in which the rest of the world does. My students are my world. Whatever I can do to help them, I will. I hope you will too.
