This year, I teach a class of 24 ICT (Integrated Co-Teaching) First graders. Forty percent of my class is special education and sixty percent is general education. My school is in a changing neighborhood in New York City. My students have many different learning and management needs in order to ensure a successful educational endeavor.
My students are intelligent and eager to learn.
I am trying to pass on my love for reading to this class, but, as a result of low reading levels and a few interesting books, this has been very challenging. I am trying to create a collaborative classroom that adheres to all of the varied interests of my students.
My Project
Our classroom is currently running very low on leveled books and our students are thriving as readers. As they are quickly growing as readers, they are not able to access the amount of leveled books that they need to sustain their continued reading growth.
By donating to our project, you will help to add 80 new books to our classroom library!
This will allow our students to have more choice based on their interests and their levels. Second grade is a critical time in the life of a growing reader and having this huge growth in our library will entice our students to grow their love of reading.
We are trying to instill the importance of book choice in our students and can only do that by having a classroom library that is stocked with many books. By adding these 4 sets of leveled books (levels M, N, O, and P), we will better be able to reach the full array of growing readers in our classroom. Won't you consider helping us to do this?
