it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Third graders in a New York public school who go home to a house, apartment or shelter with little to no materials to succeed in school. This high-achieving third grade class in an extremely low-income community is made up of students who want to do well and want to learn as much as they can, but barely have the resources to do so.
Here are third graders who are ready for fourth grade books! My class is made up of the brightest third grade students in the school, many of whom are already reading on a fourth grade reading level. Since all of my students are given independent reading time and the chance to borrow books from my classroom library, it's important that I have books that are appropriate for them.
Sometimes the challenge in a classroom is having appropriate books for low level readers. However, in this case, I need books for the high level readers in my classroom. With 20 books on a fourth grade level, all of my students will have the opportunity to read exciting books that are "just right" for them and push them to achieve enormous growth in their reading abilities!
By making a donation to this project, you are helping fuel the energy of these 27 eight and nine year-olds, enhancing their reading abilities and helping them fall in love with new characters! By the end of third grade, you will ensure that these students have far exceeded grade-level expectations!
