My Students
I work in a diverse and exciting school as an ICT teacher. Many of our students are striving readers, writers, and mathematicians who are below grade level and working hard to foster a love of learning. We are working hard to foster this love by giving students multiple opportunities to learn and get excited to read, write, and learn about the world around them.
Our students are creative, inquisitive, and hardworking.
Whether they are working independently, in partnerships, in small groups, or with the entire class, our students love overcoming challenges together.
My Project
Scholastic News magazines will be used in a variety of ways in our classroom. The videos that accompany the magazine will be used to hook and build background knowledge for the students before they start reading. Students will have opportunities to read the articles as a class, in small groups, and independently. During this time we will work on students' literacy skills by focusing on key vocabulary words found in the text. To build reading comprehension, students will participate in close reading activities, in addition to developing their writing skills by writing about the topics we are learning about.
The magazine includes paired text along with a variety of genres.
It provides critical thinking questions along with text that is culturally connected. The articles are written on relevant topics that engage the students. This resource includes differentiation for below and above-level students as well as English language learners.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
