This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Technology drives everything! From the time we wake up to when we fall asleep, we use it everyday! So, why should it take a backseat when it comes to learning in the classroom? We need technology in every classroom and in every student and teacher's hand. It is the pen and paper of our time!
My students are 21st Century learners and are eager to use all of the technology available to them!
I teach 24 curious, natural born third grade scientists in a small Title 1 school with an amazing and supportive principal. My students are eager to learn and their brains are sponges that absorb any and all information given to them. Everything is a potential investigation/experiment to them so I strive to provide my students with as many learning and project based opportunities as possible. I constantly enhance the school curriculum and students' intrinsic motivation to learn more by infusing STEM correlations whenever possible. Because of our size, funding levels are not as high as other schools in our area so grants become an integral part of how I obtain materials to supplement learning experiences. Our school has made a commitment to increase technology into our classrooms but can only provide what budget numbers allow.
My Project
My students love technology! However, there are not enough computers in my classroom for every student to spend quality time each day. Currently I have several laptop computers in my classroom. Students rotate 4 times a day to have quality time on a computer. My ultimate goal is to have a laptop computer for every 2 students in my classroom. The 6 computers requested in this proposal will help me reach my goal. Interactive learning will be just a click away and at the fingertips of every student during the day. This portable technology can be taken anywhere inside and outside the classroom. My students will be able access information on demand, do research, and complete assignments cooperatively instead of waiting for their turn on a computer. My students will use these laptops as a learning tool to read books Online, conduct research, make presentations, view electronic references for clarification and complete assignments digitally. They will make a big difference in my classroom!
The addition of these computers in my classroom will allow my students to have the access they need to become technologically literate.
Many of my students do not have the financial resources at home to purchase digital devices. This grant will provide an equal opportunity for all my students to succeed. Thank you for your consideration.
