This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I teach in the Bronx in a low-income area where according to the NYC Dept of Education, 95% of our students are considered to come from families that face economic hardship. Many of our students are English-language learners, some of which are recent immigrants. 20% of our students have disabilities.
Our students are wonderful and eager to learn.
These supplies (craft sticks, twine, etc.) would allow them to explore in a hands-on manner and allow them to learn basics of design and engineering helping to lay a foundation as well as sparking an interest that could one day lead to a career in STEM. Our students are very capable and work hard and they will really enjoy this experience.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
