We are "rockin" in third grade! Learning about sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic rocks, discovering the differences and identifying them are some of the best aspects of our rock unit.
I teach third grade in a Title One school. We are in a low socio-economic area and depend greatly on donations or our own personal financial contributions.
With very few rocks to identify except limestone (common to Southern Indiana), the need for kits containing igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rocks is imperative to the exploration and identification process. My third graders LOVE to explore materials hands-on. The children would love to examine and explore the types of rocks, as well as the tests to identify each type.
By fulfilling this proposal, you would provide a classroom of 21 inquisitive third graders the opportunity to explore rocks and engage in a higher level of learning through scientific investigation. These materials will also benefit the children in my classes for years to come and provide unlimited access to interactive science activities.
By funding this proposal, you will provide my students access to activities, and knowledge that they otherwise would never have known.
