Third Grade Reading Comprehension

My Students

Did you know that the new core curriculum standards are quite rigorous? New Jersey state has instituted the core curriculum standards in all of our schools and teachers must be sure that the students are reading and comprehending everything!

I teach third grade in a suburban school district in New Jersey.

Our student body is very diverse and our special education population is quite large. In addition, our classroom budget is very small and in order to reach all of our diverse learners additional resources are in need.

My Project

I can remember when reading comprehension was difficult for me in grade school. I was always struggling to stay on task, and differentiation was not even a word in our teacher's vocabulary! I am determined to reach all of my students and their diverse needs. These comprehension journals would allow my students to read and respond to their reading daily, and I would be able to monitor their progress and address potential issues on a daily basis. I would use these journals as a morning "do now" each and every day, and my students will benefit greatly in the area of reading comprehension.

This project is very important to me because these are resources that I would utilize on a daily basis to increase my students achievement in reading.

In addition, I would be able to target skills that are weak and help my students to become lifelong learners and lovers of reading a great book!!
