Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For several years, our district's office of performing and visual arts has provided all of our third grade students with recorders. Unfortunately, funding has been cut this year and 75 students who were anticipating these instruments have been disappointed.
My third grade students live in a high poverty community and attend an urban public school in New Jersey.
They love music and have been excited to start playing the recorder since they were in kindergarten. It has been a big disappointment for them to learn that this year, our school will not be receiving the expected recorders.
My Project
If these 75 recorders are received, my third grade music students will get a chance to apply all that they've learned about music notation and musicianship. They will get to experience taking care of an instrument and have an opportunity to perform onstage at our end of the year concert.
If you give to this project, you will help 75 third grade students to blossom as musicians.
These children have limited access to the arts and it is amazing what a difference something as simple as a recorder can make in their lives.
