This school year, my district is piloting a new program, the 3rd grade music guarantee. This year-long initiative will include teaching students to play the recorder, and we will be using the recorder belts method to track and motivate their progress. In previous school years, I have given students loom bands in a procession of colors that signify their mastery of recorder skills and performance achievements. I have also been building in-class binders of music from several different programs that students use to practice.
Organizing the supplementary materials for teaching recorders will help class time and practice time run smoothly for my students.
The 5-tab plastic dividers will be used in the binders to help students quickly move from Mr. Henry's Recorder Lab to Quaver's recorder songs, from Hot Tunes & Cool Tunes to Recorder Karate, etc. The 24-drawer plastic storage will house the loom bands, organized by color. The white and green loom bands need to be replenished as my stock has dwindled in the last two years, and the star stickers will go on the class progress charts.
