This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are always eager to learn third graders.
My students come from a low socio-economic community in the heart of Los Angeles.
We are a Title One school where over 80% of my students receive free or reduced lunch. All of my students are second language learners coming from many different backgrounds.
My Project
Imagine being stuck in a desk all day at 8 years old. My students are eager to learn wiggly third graders who need a classroom rug where they can come and sit on. A rug will allow my students to be in the front of the classroom paying attention to the lesson that is being presented.
My students are also in need of some PE equipment so that we can learn some new games. My student participate in 20 minutes of PE each day and we are running out of skills that they can learn because of lack of equipment.
Having a classroom rug will dramatically improve the way that lessons are being presented to my students.
A rug will allow all my students close to the board, which will in turn increase their over all engagement in the lessons. New PE equipment will allow for more participation and over all enjoyment in the new sports we will be learning.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
