Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My main goal is to provide my third grade students with a range of artistic tools that allow for exploration, creativity, and mastery of different skills in a hands-on way. I want them to feel proud of their artistic expression and gain confidence in their ability to work with different media. We do not have the funds to provide these things at our school.
My students need opportunities to express themselves through varied mediums that encourage their personal voice.
Paint sticks are easy to use and allow children to experiment with color, texture, and layering in ways that may be challenging with traditional brushes. Oil pastels help children develop their ability to mix and blend colors while practicing techniques like shading, layering, and adding texture to their artwork. Tempera paint introduces students to a traditional medium and helps them explore how color mixing works, while also allowing them to practice fine motor skills through brush control. Construction paper helps students practice cutting, tearing, and gluing—key fine motor skills that promote hand-eye coordination and dexterity.
By using materials like paint sticks and oil pastels, they can experiment freely while developing important cognitive and motor skills and meet the art standards.
