My Students
I have a group of active 1st graders this year. They love to learn and they love to try new things. They especially love math and science activities. Recently we created a traveling water experiment in our class. I asked my students what they thought might happen between the glasses of water which contained different colors and the glasses that contained no water? There were several different hypothesis.
My favorite came from a very engaged student who strongly felt that the “Potion would explode!” There enthusiasm for learning is contagious.
I would love to provide for my students more hands-on opportunities to create, and to explore the world around them.
My Project
I am always amazed at the variety of ways students use their creative juices. The Gadgets and Gizmos invention kit along with the Create-A-Chain Reaction and the Construction Planks leave an open-ended interface. This open-ended interface allows students to construct and experiment in a variety of different ways, resulting in a variety of different outcomes. Their creativity and experience with these tools will extend their understanding of the world around them. Can we say, “future engineers in embryo?” I am also especially excited about the Gail Gibbons science read a-longs. My students are fascinated with animals. With 4 books to a CD, students can more readily access the text and pictures without the need to share one book between a group of 5 children. They are going to love these books! And last, but certainly not least, the charging station is so needed. Our ipads and chrome books will now be able to have a permanent place to call home. The children and I are so excited to apply for this grant and how it can help to extend learning opportunities within our classroom.
