My students need Geometrix Foams Shapes, Pattern Blocks, Linking Cubes, a place-value pocket chart, and more, to learn mathematical concepts.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Learning math doesn't have to be a headache. It should be a fun and hands on experience for all children. Children should be able to go from the concrete to the abstract. It shouldn't be about memorization either. I want my students to REALLY understand and love MATH.
My students live in a very impoverished section of Los Angeles.
They live in a mostly industrial neighborhood where gang violence is seen as the norm. Students spend long hours at school and eat most of their meals at school. They all qualify for a federally funded meal program. Many students have had tremendous hardships at such an earl life. They want to improve themselves and help their families too. Even at the age of 7 they know that only with an education can they break the poverty cycle.
My Project
My students need Geometrix Foams Shapes to learn about solid figures. How can I expect them to understand a line, a vertex, flat surfaces if they can't see, hold it in their hands and explore it? Linking Cubes are also essential so that students can get enduring understanding of addition and subtraction. They need to be able to manipulate quantities, to see patterns and regroup when adding higher numbers. A place value pocket chart will also help them see that where a digit is located in a given number makes a difference in its value. I want students to be ready for higher math. I want them to have a solid foundation so that they will succeed in future mathematics.
Please help my students internalize mathematical concepts.
Many times paper and pencil is not the way to help students understand mathematical concept. I want every child to feel successful during math class. I want them to be excited about every new concept being presented. I want them to yearn for more math. Please help my students by donating these essential manipulatives so that they can learn math the right way.
