it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are resilient, hard-working, and kind human. Despite COVID-19 challenges such as losing family members, the physical isolation, and the need for financial support for their families, my students join every class every single day with a smile and a positive attitude toward the future. My students love learning and I love teaching my students social-emotional content. My favorite lessons are about gratitude and kindness towards themselves and others to nurture their self-compassion and self-care. We are undergoing unprecedented times, and keeping the spirit up is one of the simple things we all can do to continue moving forward to a new time in our lives. Finding grateful moments throughout the day and an inspiring act of kindness can nurture the hope that things will get better.
My Project
My students are currently attending classes virtually, and I firmly believe that receiving a handwritten card home will make them feel noticed, cared, and appreciated. The sand timer will be paired with a mindfulness activity that will provide them with opportunities throughout the day to take deep breaths to practice self-care and self-compassion and release on the electronic devices' fatigue. Students will use their bracelets as a reminder word that even when things are different and challenging, we need to continue hoping and keeping a growth mindset to support perseverance and overcome obstacles. These tools will help the students' motivation and make a difference in how they approach and take ownership of their learning. The products that I have selected will help all students be included and help them continue connecting to me as their school counselor and feel loved and cared for. I hope the project gets approved as students not only need their academic tools (books, curriculum, supplies) but tools and resources such as word of encouragement, learning how to listen to their inner self, and build in their growth mindset.
