The students at our school stream in each morning eager to begin their day. The school's population is very diverse affording students the opportunity to learn about many cultures.
Students crave learning of all kinds, especially when they get hands-on experiences.
I am lucky enough to be a resource teacher specializing in critical thinking instruction. I visit all classrooms K-3 to engage students in lessons focused on creativity, evaluation, observation, and logical reasoning. Our students love school, love learning, and by providing them with meaningful experiences, their quest for knowledge can be achieved!
My Project
Students will really enjoy getting hands-on with the game Blink and Math Dice during my classroom lessons. There are enough materials that pairs or individuals can play the games. Blink encourages students to quickly notice attributes. Math Dice is a game in which students use mental math to reach a target number.
Students should be having fun while learning to think critically.
Tangrams are wonderful for creative problem-solving. Tangoes have some puzzles for the students to try and solve. With these materials, students can work in small groups to figure out how the pieces fit together. I can use Rush Hour, iTrax, and Mental Blox in my small group instruction and give students the chance to explore critical thinking and problem solving through play.
The students will connect with the literature I've selected to help them realize that mistakes and problems are really just opportunities in disguise. They will learn to depend on their growth mindset to overcome challenges!
