Thinkers: Kindergarten Literacy Centers

My project needs a set of alphabet stamps, a set of letters, a phonics center and a big alphabet book.

This project is fully funded

I teach full day kindergarten in a K-3 school. Some of my students have had preschool experience and use the full-day program to extend their learning. Other students have had limited experience, so the full day offers them more time to learn the basics. My challenge is how to accommodate both needs, and one of the solutions is Literacy Centers. I am incorporating this year into my schedule a time where students can visit different "Centers" in the room and participate in learning activities which I call "Thinkers." Students will work in pairs to complete the activity. One of the centers will be the ABC Center. Alphabet tracing stamps will provide many learning activities for the children, such as stamping their name, stamping and tracing letters that we learn, and stamping the alphabet in order, to name a few. Another resource would be the Alphabet Big Book, which I would introduce as a whole group activity and move it to the ABC Center. Students would use highlight tape to hunt for and find key letters. Another component would be the Phonics center, where students could move from letters to sound recognition. Finally, a set of alphabet letters and sorting tray would be used in a variety of ways such as spelling their names, sequencing, and matching capitals and lowercase letters. By donating these items you can assist in bringing challenging and learning activities to a kindergarten classroom!
