This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students come to school eager to learn. I want not only to teach them state standards, I want them to love to learn. One of my favorite sayings is, "The important thing is not so much that every child should be taught, as that every child should be given the wish to learn." John Lubbock
My students attend a rural, K-6 school where over 90% receive free and reduced lunch.
We are a declining enrollment school due to the closure of a mine in our small town. Fewer students means less money and opportunity for extra curricular activities. Many of them come from bilingual or low income homes with few enriching experiences available to them.
My Project
My students will research alternative energy sources. They will learn how dependent we are on electricity which is generated by oil and coal, both add to greenhouse gas buildup. They will learn about the fossil fuels that are nonrenewable and will investigate the possible use of solar power, a renewable energy source. My students will use the solar oven to learn the relationship between conduction, convention, and radiation through a real life learning experience. They will also write a hypothesis, learn to use a thermometer and graph their data.
Your donations will allow my students the opportunity to learn state standards in science, math and language arts through project based lessons.
It will also let them learn more about the sun as a renewable energy source and will make learning fun!
