My Students
This year our class is working on increasing their independent reading stamina. Each day students read books of their choice during independent reading time. Some students in my class have not yet been able to find books which they can truly relate to for their independent reading part of the day.
Many students in my class are only exposed to the books that they read at school.
We have a small classroom library and a school library that is not much bigger. Some of my students have to work very hard to find books that interest them and that they will be able to read daily and comprehend what they are reading by themselves. Since September most of my students have developed more interest in reading. As the students interested in reading increases, so does the need for new and updated titles in our library.
My Project
Students will be able to use these Nicky Fifth books during their independent reading time. Due to the fact that our school is located in New Jersey, it is easier for students to relate to these books. Having books that my students can so easily relate to will make it much more enjoyable reading for the students as well as help them to make better connections. I long for each of my students to find books that they will enjoy reading, therefore increasing their interest in reading. By having four different titles in this series, more of my students will be able to find something to read from now until the end of the school year.
The donations of these books will increase student reading desire and interest in my classroom.
These books may be the ones that some students have been waiting for all year, the only ones that they can relate to. Without these titles, some of my students may never read a book this year that they truly enjoy. Increasing the desire to read will lead to an increase in students reading levels over time as well. As the the students begin to realize that they enjoy reading, they will only read more.
