This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are eager learners. They absolutely love hands-on activities and love to learn new concepts and skills. They come to school each day ready to try new things and take chances. Our students' goal is to grow both personally and academically. Our population consists of many English Language Learners and Students with disabilities. Our school celebrates inclusion. As my students make gains in my classroom, they begin to try new concepts with their typically developing peers. My classroom has a great focus on building skills to feel included. The work we do in this classroom focus on building relationships, staying with the group, following directions, and accessing general education content in different ways.
My Project
Our goal for our future classroom is to have the flexibility for students to not only choose where to sit and take charge of their learning but also to make the choices that work best for them. These choices include creating a workplace that allows them to quickly show and share their thinking without using traditional paper and pencil. Our students are required to carry a clipboard, pen and paper when moving to stations and when working in a small group. It is a big deal for us to ensure that our students are comfortable, and an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. When given choice, the students are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk and using the old school way. These tables are great for those students that are able to show their thinking rather than solely explaining it. We will be able to take pictures of the work and include in their portfolios.
