My Students
My students are very much into technology and the technical fields that rely on math and science as tools! They enjoy hands-on activities that pertain to what they may do in their future careers. They love challenges and work hard at fulfilling them!
Many students in my classroom say they really like the life experiences brought to them through the activities and labs.
Our school is a rural school in South Dakota, which is not far from a city that has many opportunities to keep my students challenged after high school. This city has many medical and engineering-related venues for later employment to keep their challenging spirits alive.
Each student in my classroom will get a chance to explore these challenging fields and get some hands-on reinforcement. Trying to meet the needs of each student requires the equipment and know-how. The students that I get really push the envelope on what they want for themselves in life. Over the years because of their wants and needs I have added 2 college chemistry courses that the students are eager to take. A large percentage of these students do go into a variety of technical fields that challenge them.
My Project
Electrophoresis is one of the tools used to help fight the battle of viruses such as COVID. The pipette is used measure and deliver a sample of the virus and reagent to test it. Using a gel with different stains helps identify the virus. The buffer is used as the mobile agent with electricity to sort the virus and/or stains.
With these pipettes, buffer and stains, my students will be able to lab in a real professional fashion the mimics the real world.
They are always excited to do labs that many professionals do on a daily basis. Using this equipment is the best way to help build the students confidence and knowledge for many of the STEM fields.
