These Are the Droids You're Looking For...Ozobots.
My students need a classroom set of Ozobot Bits, a line following robot, which can be coded in a variety of ways. Coding is the language of the future, and our students need to be fluent.
Issac Asimov once stated, "I do not fear computers. I fear the lack of them." Our students attend a self-contained gifted academy with a unique STEAM and Maker focus where children are empowered to take charge of their learning through a variety of avenues, including problem-based learning and student choice. They are gifted in many different areas including science, math, reading, writing and the arts. Our students are working above grade level in academics, but are emotionally and socially 6, 7 and 8 year old children. They love all activities which are hands-on, and science, math and engineering are among their favorite topics. Most of them are avid readers, and they all have very active imaginations. They are extremely curious, have fluent and flexible thinking, are very observant and they learn quickly with very little repetition. Our students have elaborate and original ideas and they quickly and easily see relationships in ideas, objects and facts. Our classroom is like the world: busy, chaotic and always in motion.
My Project
A class set of ozobots will make a difference for our gifted 2nd graders by allowing them to learn how to create technology. Coding builds logical thinking, problem solving, persistence, collaboration and communication. It is a deeply creative process. Ozobots can be used in a variety of innovative ways in the classroom.
Technology is integrated into every part of our lives, and if you can create technology, you can change the world.
By having a grade level set of ozobots, our 2nd graders will be able to learn skills which will help them grow into the leaders who will shape the future...their future.
