My Students
Each year we have more and more students who have families struggling to make it and who often have to move in with relatives after a job loss. Many also come from military families. The students at our school really want to make good choices and we have a staff that is working to help guide students. Our staff continually goes above and beyond to help their students. The school is based on the idea that we are all part of the same team, and we work towards helping all students. Almost 100 percent of certified staff work as mentors during their personal time to give students who need extra help the attention they need, whether it is an academic or a personal need. We are working hard to make sure our students are prepared for the future. We have added a MakerSpace and are now working to extend our STREAM clubs.
My Project
Research shows the learning is effected by emotion and comfort level. If students are embarrassed or angry, they will not do their best in school. We want our students to feel good about themselves and to be able to do their best.
Psychology Today states "Enuresis places a child at risk of being a target for name-calling and teasing from peers, which can damage a child's self esteem and place him or her at risk of rejection." It is not uncommon for elementary age students to have an occasional accident at school, so more often.
In addition, we have times students get their clothes messy at lunch or at recess. It is important for the student to be able to change into something clean and dry, and with as few people knowing about it as possible.
We also have students who come to school without adequate clothing. We have seen in the past few years more families that have financial needs, and at times students do not have the clothing items that they need. Children should not have to feel embarrassed at school.
Our school nurse will have the student change in her rest room, and then send the child's clothes home. If a student is needing clothing, then we will send clothing from this project home for them to use. The items requested will cover the sizes of children that we have attending our school. There are pants, underwear, and tops for both boys and girls in the sizes of students that attend.
We will have the materials in a closet that the nurse can access when they are needed.
We want our students to be able to feel accepted, repeated, and cared about. This will enable the student to learn and establish friendships. Thank you for your help.
