My students need a color printer I can use to create colorful icons and visual stimuli to enhance communication. For my students without tech., having an iPad will help enhance their ability to engage in learning.

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I am a first year teacher to an exciting and energetic group of boys. All of my students are diagnosed as Moderate/Severe and have Autism. They love to play, laugh, and run free at recess. When they want that in the classroom it makes for a very festive day.

Many of my students require different means of communication.

Some communicate with ProLoQuo2Go and some utilize PECs (Picture Exchange Communication). They all communicate with expression, gestures, sounds, affection, and the list goes on and on.

Five of my students use personal iPads to communicate and three use PECS. It is hard for the students without technology to remain engaged and they are highly interested in using an iPad but cannot access their fellow students. There are many ABA sites that would allow me to help my students focus on their learning.

My Project

A color printer to make PECS icons, engaging visual schedules and stimuli will help enhance the communication skills of my student who cannot rely on verbal communication. A classroom iPad will allow students who do not have access to a personal tablet to engage and enhance their ability to learn. Communication is so important in a Moderate/Severe classroom and without the ability to do so effectively, it can become a road block to learning and thriving.

This is my first class as an SDC teacher, and I want to give these boys the best education I can while I have them in my classroom.
