This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

A typical day in my classroom can be very atypical. Some students come in bright eyed and bushy tailed, ready to tackle the day and others come in bleary eyed and not sure if they want to be here at all. But what is typical among them all is the allure and excitement of being able to use technology.

I teach in low socioeconomic area where the majority of children come from immigrant families.

Our neighborhood, though historic, is also a located in the middle of high gang activity and high poverty area. School is the safe place for students. My class is a small learning community of 2nd-3rd grades. Most of my students have been diagnosed with a learning disability, such as ADHD, Specific Learning Disability, or Emotional Behavioral Disorder. Many of them have been bounced around either from school to school or class to class until they were diagnosed. Therefore, it is imperative that my students feel safe and supported in their academics. My goal for each of them is to build a strong foundation in learning that will foster a confidence and life long love for learning. My Project

Our current lack of technology in terms of quantity and quality is great source of frustration for my class. Whether it is waiting our turn to use the computer or having the webpage suddenly quit because it was no™t updated can cause some meltdowns. My grand vision for the platforms in my classroom is for my students to have access to reference materials that can make vocabulary words come alive; being able to research about their favorite animal for that book presentation; or using the power of satellite images to see what the different regions of California look like. And with the amazing collection of educational apps that are available, my students will be able to reinforce their skills in core academic subjects through engaging and innovative activities, that wasn'tmake their learning come alive. Also learning how to manipulate all the gestures of using the Ipad will help my students with their fine motor skills.

It is my hope that through the generous support of the Donors Choose community that my students will be able to have access to a technology that essentially puts all the possibilities for learning at their fingertips (literally).

To show them a world outside of their neighborhood. Through the use of different œappsapps and programs on the device, they'll be able to create meaningful connections to the academic material. And to foster their enthusiasm for learning into adulthood!
