This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

If you visit our classroom, you will see small groups engaged in reading, listening, and sharing views on books and day to day topics. My goal is for 75% of my ELLs to achieve one level up by the end of school year. “If we teach today’s students as we taught yesterday’s, we rob them of tomorrow” ~ John Dewey.

My students are English Language Learners, coming from diverse backgrounds at different levels of language proficiencies and facing economic struggles.

Many of my ELLs are unable to get help with schoolwork at home where their parents are unable to help them with homework due to the lack of language. So these students are not meeting their academic levels due to their lack of understanding English language and significantly behind at school. We are in a Title one School and my ELLs are wonderful kids who are excited to learn new concepts. It is a joy to see their faces light up when they do grasp a concept. Mini iPads have many apps designed to work as games engaging the students which help with the focus on listening, speaking and reading, they will be used to work on preset apps and explore websites, and helps the classroom connect at homes. The ELLs can ask the parents to download an app or two onto their iPhone to support their child's learning and/or even themselves.

My Project

This project will allow my ELLs to prepare to be successful in the 21st century. Today's children are digital natives and two iPads in our classroom will allow the students development of language proficiency in the areas of listening, speaking and reading skills. I feel that the right techniques and apps can create unlimited ways to supplement formal education. It can allow students to record and playback their English speaking and hearing their own voice inflection and pronunciation. The students can use online dictionaries and translators for unknown vocabulary. There are many reading apps to work on phonemic awareness and reading comprehension skills.

This project will allow my students learning English to prepare to be successful in the 21st century and build up their confidence.

The two Mini iPads will let students get comfortable with technology and promote motivation in students’ listening, speaking and reading skills. Mini iPads will allow me instant information on students’ strengths and weaknesses. Lessons can be tailored to each individual student. It will allow students to take ownership of their learning.
