My students need working accessories for the updated computers in the computer lab. This includes a working mouse, a mouse pad and speakers for group lessons.
We have a lab that was updated three years ago but has not been used since then because there was not a lab tech until I came this year. I am trying to get the lab up and running in order to make learning reading, math, science and social studies fun. We need basic things to complete the lab.
We are a smaller school in a large urban district.
We have 30% English language learners of Asian descent in our population and a 11% special education population. Technology is a vital part in helping all children learn and technology for our special populations increases understanding. We have a mission statement that states "providing ALL students with academic, technological and social skills needed to be productive and contributing citizens in our society." I want to fulfill the technological skills needed in our technology growing society.
My Project
We have 12 broken mice in the lab which will be needed to navigate on the computer. Having the mouse pads will enable the students to be able to smoothly navigate through reading, math and other programs. We will use the speakers to listen to books for the younger grades and watch videos about digital citizenship for all grades. This first week in the lab has been trial and error to see what equipment is working. I would like the lab to be fully functional as soon as possible for my students.
My students are in a large urban school district in which the budget cuts took away technology for my k-8 school for the last three years.
My students were thrilled beyond thrilled to come to the computer lab their first week of school and expressed how happy they are to have me teaching them computers. These kids deserve to be technology literate like every other child in more affluent areas. Please help me help them achieve greatness.
