My Project

My Advanced Placement Literature students are bright, motivated, and engaged. Help me purchase 65 copies of Tommy Orange's There There for them in order to support my goal of examining lively, vivid, entertaining, and timely literature from a variety of cultures and voices.

There There is a high-interest novel depicting the lives and issues facing Native American people of current day Oakland, California.

I have found that teaching contemporary, thought-provoking novels is the best means to foster rich, deep discussion and thoughtful writing, as well as prepare these students for the demands of the A.P. Literature exam.

I have offered this engaging and powerful to my students in the past as a choice of novels to read, but I do not have a class set of novels and I am becoming increasingly reluctant to ask students to purchase their own texts.
