My Students

The students at our school are amazing! They come into the classroom excited to learn and become involved in whatever topic that is in the plan. We have wonderful support from our parents. We have a very diverse population of students: culturally, economically, and with different learning abilities. It's become my goal to try and stay ahead of them!

Our third grade team would like to help our students become aware of their financial responsibilities while they are still young: learning about how to earn and save for things they may want later, and becoming aware of the value of earning as a reward.

Our students are mostly from homes with economic hardships. I would like to furnish a solid base of education for these students early so they can appreciate what they have, and how to reap the rewards of knowledge later.

My Project

Our students will be immersed in both independent and small group writing that is enhanced by interactive lessons and authentic writing.

Using Jennifer Serravallo’s “Writing Strategies Book” as a resource text, I will be able to incorporate strategies into our lessons that target the needs of my students.

The instant writing strategies classroom library will provide a mentor text for each strategy in our writing workshop. The library has been selected by Jennifer Serravallo aimed at our high-achieving and gifted third grade class. The text is filled with research-based strategies that support our writing goals. Each strategy is cross-linked to skills, conferencing needs of the writers, and will give students step-by-step strategies for honing their craft.

The “Writing Strategies Book” is a resource text and with the mentor-text library will be ideal for use with our academically advanced third grade group that works independently each morning as part of our WIN (What I Need) program, balancing writing workshop, guided writing, and a balanced literacy program.
