My Students

Brrr...it is cold outside, but I'm already thinking about ways my students can maintain their literacy skills this summer!!! Research studies conducted on academic loss during summertime is VERY disheartening.

I have 22 hard-working students in my kindergarten class.

They are very excited about learning new things, but mostly they are excited about learning how to read. 100% of the students at my school receive free lunch and breakfast each day because of the high poverty rate at my school. My students face a lot of obstacles, but in spite of that, they are still eager to learn.

My Project

I am requesting a set of books for each student to take home this summer. Each set contains 10 books that emphasize different phonics skills. I would love to make these available to my students because I know it will help them maintain the skills learned this year in kindergarten. I don't want them to lose important skills during the summer months. A lot of times parents DO care about their child's education but don't have a clue HOW to help them. These books contain 25 high frequency flash cards that parents can use with their child to develop sight word fluency. My end of the year goal is to be able to provide each student/parent a bag of goodies that they can use during the summer months to prevent academic loss. This will be one of the most important items in the bag. In order to reach my goal by June, I have to start gathering the supplies they need quickly!

My students have worked hard to make academic gains this school year, and will continue working hard for a few more months.

I want their summer months to consist of more than flaming hot Cheetos, television, and staying up all night. With your help, my students will have the resources they need to help them continue their joy of literacy and learning. Thanks so much for caring and reading about how you can help my students succeed.
