My Students
My students range from Kindergarten to 5th grade and all have Autism Spectrum Disorder. Some also have a Speech Impairment, Sensory Processing Disorder, and other cognitive disabilities. I support my students through social skills training, transition training, grade level academics, pre-requisite academics, behavioral expectations, emotional regulation training, and sensory concepts. I am a direct teacher for some students and an indirect teacher for others. I love my students; they are inspiring, hardworking, and the reason I choose to continue to teach!
My Project
My students have varying reading skills, personalities, cultural backgrounds, languages spoken at home, and the list goes on. Each student needs to find books that will speak to them and help them find their place in the world.
Varied level readers means varied level books are a necessity.
Students are encouraged to continue reading beyond what is required; if I have enough books on their level in my classroom library, this will be possible.
Students, like adults, have favorite books that they choose to read over and over but also love to explore different genres, authors, and characters. Books help my students relate to the world around them.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
