My Students
How do you like to learn? My students thrive on visuals.
I teach a self-contained class of children who happen to have autism.
I have both kindergarten and 1st grade students in our room. All my students are boys so far this school year. Each student is very unique in his learning style, but all of my students need visuals to help support his school day. My students also use visuals and pictures to help communicate.
My Project
My students are visual learners who need lots of structure to get through a school day. My students do better when they see a picture versus me verbally telling them what to do. My students also need to know what is coming up next. Currently I have visuals posted in my room that I can point to to remind my student to stay in his desk, or to sit correctly on the carpet. Too bad they are in black and white. To help with independence my students have an individual daily schedule with pictures (in black and white) to tell them what to do next. Wouldn't it be nice if my visuals were in color? Wouldn't it be more realistic if my pictures were in color?
For communication I have some students who point to pictures to tell me what they need or want. To be able to have color pictures makes what the child is pointing to more realistic. My school does not have a color printer. We are requesting a color printer and copier with ink to help make our visuals.
Do you have a daily planner?
Do you have notes posted to help you remember something? My students need these reminders to help them get through a school day. My students also need visuals and pictures to aid in communicating. My students are very literal and real pictures work great for them. Real pictures in color work even better! Please help me be able to support my students learning style and communication needs by allowing me to be able to print my pictures and visuals in color.
