My Students
Learning history the "old fashioned" way discourages today's students. My students want to learn and discover the events of the past in an exciting and engaging way. In that way, they truly learn the history, and don't simply memorize facts and dates.
My fifth grade classroom is full of naturally curious students who love to learn, but hate to be bored!
We keep learning alive through hands-on activities, research based projects, and fascinating novel studies. The best days in our classroom are when the students learn and have fun doing it. Imagine learning about the history behind the Revolutionary War through an interesting and colorful graphic novel! Students in my rural Title 1 school love to learn, but are passionate about it when its presented in an interesting way.
My Project
With a set of George vs. George nonfiction graphic novels, my students can explore the history of the Revolutionary War in an interesting way. This book considers both sides of the war. The paintings in the book are interesting and accurate. Students will feel and see what it was like to be alive during the Revolutionary War. My students will be able to compare and contrast the points of view of George Washington and King George of England during this important time in history. They will learn about the important battles, the challenges faced by both sides, and gain an important understanding of the significance of this event in history.
If you chose to fund this project, my students will engage in learning history.
They will collaborate with their classmates and have rich discussions as to the points of view of the war. My students will improve literacy skills as they discover history in an engaging and interactive way.
