Therapy for Our Students Is So Important!

My Students

I’m the school social worker for 8th grade at a Title I middle school in Anacostia community in South East Washington, DC. Our scholars are students with amazing potential, but have limited resources to insure that they are able to reach their goals. They are resilient and inspiring and have a desire to make a difference in their own lives and those of others. It is for these reasons that we are asking for your assistance. Thank you in advance.

My Project

The materials that you are helping to purchase will be used to enhance my students' therapeutic experience. Imagine the difficulty of talking to someone that you barely know about your inner most feelings, wouldn't it be easier if you had a fidget, puzzle or game that could help to cope with the difficulty of the conversation? Wouldn't you like to come into a space where you knew that all of your emotional needs could get met and that it was safe?

That's exactly what my office is to many of my students- a safe space where they can come to talk or to take a break from stressful situations.

Students know that my office is a judge free zone, where their concerns and stressors will be dealt with meaningfully and mindfully. A welcoming office full of activities and games helps our students to engage in the process and feel comfortable while their learning necessary coping skills and life skills that they will be able to use in school, outside of school and for the rest of their lives.
