My Students
My elementary school art students range in age from three to eleven, however, they are far more imaginative than anyone over the age of 30 (no offense, donors)! Our diverse group of learners is increasing every year as enrollment grows, which means our school building is bursting at the seams with kiddos and their fantastic artwork!
Students enter our neighborhood school with heart and brains and it is my job to grow both with art at the core!
My littlest artists come to our art studio with a diverse level of art experiences. Some have been elbow deep in squishy clay before, while a waxy crayon may be the extent for others. Regardless of experience and aptitude, none of them lack in creativity and everyone leaves a more enthusiastic student of art and life come time for middle school!
My Project
Drawing inspiration from Beyonce's powerful lyrics, "If you liked it, then you should have put a ring on it," our artists LOVE their artwork, and should therefore be able to put mats around it to display their work in a way that highlights the integrity of the creation!
Railroad board, mat board, magnets, adhesive tapes, and ceiling hangers will all make displaying artwork more possible as we creatively problem solve aesthetically appealing ways to get artwork on the walls of our temporary school.
In collaboration with a tremendous donation of a wire hanging system from a prior Donorschoose.org project, our sleek mat board displays will elevate our creations to the next level by providing a professional finish to the unique work we create in the studio all year long. Seeing our artwork displayed as if it were in a gallery or museum will boost the confidence of our young artists by inspiring them to produce work worthy of a public art opening in the Nation's Capitol!
