This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The best and easiest way to describe my students is that they are survivors. My class is a dual language kindergarten classroom, and I am charged with teaching them Spanish, language arts, and math. I will have two classes, each consisting of 21 highly motivated and fully charged five-year-olds. My children and their families have been hit hard by Hurricane Harvey. Many of my families had to be evacuated, and our school sustained a lot of damage. We are teaching at a relocation site with the basics. We couldn't ask our parents for any type of supply after what they went through. My kids are ready to be back at their school, but we need some books to replace what we lost during the hurricane and some new books would open up their world. We hope to be back at our school soon and these items would help my students adjust to yet another move.

My Project

One of the main things my students have missed the most at our relocation site after the hurricane is books. We have received many different types of donations but what we were missing was high quality/variety of books. The thematic sets are already separated by theme and ready to go! One of the classes' favorite book is, "Go Away Big Green Monster," and that is why I made sure to include it in this project. The laminating machine and pouches would allow us to laminate the kids work and not only display it but send it home ready to keep for many years to come. The dry erase markers, labels, photo cards, batteries, word building tiles, letter stampers, stamp pads, sentence strips, classroom magnetic alphabet kit, twist and turn word builders, and word stretchers will all be used to enhance my kid's learning during workstation time. The giant magnetic clock, letters, and numbers will be used during whole group time to allow a better view from the carpet. The students will be able to see the items from everywhere in the room. The All About Letters pocket chart will allow the students to learn the letter of the week and act like teacher at their workstation. The colored classroom bins and Turn In Your Work stand will keep the kids work and journals organized by their table colors. The timers, apron and magnetic write and wipe kits will be used by the teacher to improve organization. I cannot go a day in my class without losing a pen or a marker so hopefully these items will help.

My kids want more materials and books for their workstations and with your help they will get them.
