Each year we read this book. Each year I see first graders fall in love with the silly characters and funny plot. If the kids have their own book, they can see the pictures up close, track the words, and reread it as many times as they want. They begin to emerge as readers in the first grade. The emergence can grow if they fall in love with the books. I would love for them to have their own book for everything we read in class, but it’s not financially possible. This is one of their favorites we read each year so that’s why I’m picking this one! Some of my students cannot afford to buy these favorite books.
