Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Please help my students realize all of the opportunities that await them! I teach eighth grade reading in an inner-city middle school in a high poverty area. My students are motivated learners with the big dreams of any teenagers.

Unfortunately, my students' dreams are greatly limited by their environment. Since they lack real-life mentors to offer guidance, they often use the images of success from the media to form their career goals. To them, being successful means being in the NBA or the NFL. Many of them want to be famous rappers. While these are wonderful aspirations, the chances of these careers becoming a reality are slim. My students need to learn about other careers that are accessible to them with well-planned educational decisions.

A class subscription to Career Weekly will greatly benefit my students. This magazine will provide practical advice and information on career awareness and vocational opportunities. This will give my students the guidance they so desperately need as they make decisions about their future. As a bonus, it will provide some wonderful reading material for my reluctant readers!

As a teacher, I never want my students to stop dreaming of their future. However, they need to see the importance of receiving a great education and how it will benefit them to stay in school. You will make it possible for my students to dream big and bright as they form practical educational and career goals.
