Have you ever been in a school play? Well I teach drama and plan to have an end of the year play. The school hasn't had a drama department before (that I know of). This is an exciting opportunity for the students.
My students are high poverty and aren't able to donate anything to our play.
I will be responsible for directing, set design and actually creating any and all props, backdrops and scenery. We will perform the play at the end of the year. I'm sure I will be paying out-of-pocket for many of the items. I will try to purchase from yard sales and thrift shops.
My Project
I'm requesting plastic wrap and black tape to create large pictures. There is a scene where the walls should be covered with signed pictures of movie stars. I have access to a poster maker but, will have the students cover the posters with plastic then trim the posters with tape to create the illusion of a glass photo frame.
I will use the mural to create a back-drop for a scene. I will draw it on with pencil and let the students paint it.
This project will have a huge impact on my students.
Many of them have not performed nor have they been involved in any way with theater. I will assign roles, an assistant director, prop handlers and budding artists to create a memorable event.
