I am in year 4 of teaching an amazing class called Theater Tech offered as a math elective. In class, we look at many different aspects in theater including scenic design, props, costumes, lights and more all through the lens of math. Our biggest project is producing all of the technical aspects of theater for a musical that is performed by our Musical Theater Choir class. This performance is completely student designed and one of the major highlights of the year.
I would like to add some books as resources for our classroom, cardboard cutting tools so we can safely make amazing things out of cardboard, and make-up so we can enhance the onstage look of our actors.
The markers and erasers will help our brainstorming and design process.
Over the short span of this course, the student demand has gone from one section to three sections. The students are very dedicated and are able to take the class all three years which allows me to deepen and differentiate their learning. These items will allow this class to expand into new learning in math and theater.
