My Students

Kindergarten is the time to create, investigate and make! My students are wildly imaginative, brilliantly creative and full of giggles! They come from one of the toughest neighborhoods in the city of Chicago but it certainly doesn't stop them from being excited about school, every day! It's one of the happiest years in early childhood because they are at the age of exploring and are just stepping into the big world of education. They see the world through these fabulously fun glasses of endless possibilities that spreads into our hearts as teachers and adults. It's a positive and constant reminder of how fun it was to be five!

My students are a terrific bunch of kids full of excitement and who have an epic hunger for learning!

They are always asking new questions and are curious about anything new they discover. My students are this incredible bunch of diverse learners. We have students of all abilities and I am always so proud and impressed by the level of love and compassion my students share for one another. We are a true community of little learners who are always eager to try something new and help each other learn and grow!

My Project

During art class I envision students thoughtfully engaged in art experiences by generating and conceptualizing artists ideas and work. I also see my students analyzing and interpreting artists work by relating ideas with societal, cultural and historical context to deepen understanding. My young artists would be able to examine famous artists and learn from their techniques and talents. With these materials students would be able to engage in art experiences and projects that create spaces for critical thinking and problem solving techniques.

"It's always surprising when small children can produce a piece of art that rivals an adult version." - Patty Palmer creator of Deep Space Sparkle

Having the proper paper and materials to create art with is a gigantic step forward in demonstrating technique and elements of art. Art materials like oil pastels and water color paper demonstrate to students the possibility of their vision for their project. They can see how the right materials help them form the product they designed. For example, when we study Henri Matisse we would use the oil pastels and sulphite paper to create a still life of apples. These materials help bring to life the nature of a Matisse painting and students can relate and form meaningful connections when engaged in art projects like this.
