Unique learning, individualized plans, creative thinking, and learning to use available resources is the essence of what this Transitional Life Skills classroom is all about.
The students in this urban classroom are in 7th and 8th grade. They learn English Language Arts, Social Studies, Science, Math, and Social Skills all within the same classroom. Ninety percent of these students are English Language Learners. All of these students are learning at a level that is below grade level. Each student within the substantially separate setting has an individualized education plan and requires modifications and accommodations for each lesson. The learning disabilities that these students struggle with daily is no comparison with their effort and perseverance that they show me every day.
My Project
While we still do not know what the Fall will bring, it always good to be prepared! Regardless of in-person learning or remote learning, this year is going to be new and challenging. My students require hands-on learning material, that they do not have access to at home. With your help, my students will have binders filled with everything they are going to need to help aid their learning while we meet virtually, or while we distance ourselves. Their binders will be filled with resources for each subject to help with a routine that they desperately rely on. They will receive a pencil case that will help them to participate in hands-on learning, that we will all be doing "together."
