Help me give my students a writing folder to help keep them organized and on track while learning remotely, as well as math manipulatives for learning fractions and volume.
My upper elementary school students are of great diversity. The majority come from a low income, urban area with a large percentage of special needs students. Each year, 90% of my students qualify for free or reduced price lunch. My students have so much going on in their lives that I don't want the ability to purchase the basic school supplies to be an additional hurdle for them.
As the 2020-2021 school year continues to extend its remote learning, currently scheduled to return on March 1, 2021, I am continuing to collect supplies that my 5th graders need.
Lastly, my students are bright, funny, social, and energetic children! My goal is to continue to instill a love of lifelong learning in them despite these trying times.
My Project
The materials I am requesting, such as the dry erase strips, dry erase boards, composition notebooks, and writing folders will be added to my students' at-home materials. The other materials, such as flashcards, volume activities, and fraction bars will be utilized by me while teaching remotely so that students will have visual models.
Since I work in a low-income area where students do not have access to hands-on learning, the activities I am requesting will greatly help close the gap while teaching virtually.
The items will remain in my classroom for years to come!
