My Project

My fifth grade students write regularly. We practice writing essays and writing to prompts but also free writing and responses to questions of the week. Students enjoy practicing using tools similar to our state test: different colors for different elements of their essay. This gives them confidence and the habit of checking their organization and content.

My students’ favorite writing is usually their free writing.

They are encouraged to write anything and any style they want to. I love watching them grow in their abilities to tell a story. Each child has a unique voice that shows their personality. These items will help my students create writing folders to see their progress throughout the year.
