My project needs writing journals with primary ruled lines and a space for drawing, dry erase markers with built-in erasers, and dry erase writing charts.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Beardsley Elementary School is an inner-city, neighborhood school, serving Pre-K through 6th grade students. All of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. Our building is over one hundred years old, but our faculty works hard to create a nurturing and stimulating environment.
My thirty first grade students are an energetic and enthusiastic group of children who have lots to share. I would like to help inspire and encourage these emergent writers by giving them materials that make them want to write more! Each student would have his or her own writing journal for independent writing. These journals inspire each student to become an author and illustrator and the students really take pride in creating their very own books. I would also like to expand our writing station by adding dry erase charts and markers so that the students can test out their ideas and have the security of being able to quickly erase them if they need to make changes.
You can play a role in developing a student's lifelong love of writing by helping to provide these supplies. And who knows - the next J.K. Rowling may just be in my class!
