This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students need the right stuff when it comes to Writer's Workshop. They work hard through out each unit to create wonderful stories. However, when it comes to publishing, we lack materials and this makes it challenging for students' stories to come to life.

Writing words and telling their stories on paper is a life long skill.

My 4th graders work so hard on their stories and they work just as hard on their art. But they need more supplies. These young authors need to learn how to express themselves through art. Too often schools focus on math and reading, but the arts also need to be present in the curriculum. We are lucky to have an art teacher, but some classes aren't able to have art every trimester due to lack of resources. Sadly, many kids are left feeling empty. They may never have their chance to shine because we're too focused on reading and math. Then, when we do have a chance for creativity, we have very little materials with which to work.

My Project

That's where Donors Choose saves the day. These few materials will be the blank canvass for these young authors and artists. At the end of a writing unit, students will be able to use these supplies to add art to their stories. They can use the construction paper to make books or cut out different shapes or add borders to their pages. They can use the glitter and high quality pencils to express themselves with shimmery colors. The hardcover blank books will add that little something extra and make them feel as though they've really published a book. With a few simple supplies, their imaginations will create complex artwork and the writing process will be a little more magical.

This project is so important because the children are so proud of their work and they should have everything they need to express themselves.

With a few simple items, the students will have endless possibilities available to them. They'll have the write stuff!
