Please help me give my students what they need to become better writers! An easel, magnetic clips, and markers will help us create writing samples that students can refer to during lessons.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
We have an excellent class of creative students eager to express their ideas through writing. Our class has diverse needs, including some students with special education goals related to writing and some who are learning English.
With an easel, markers, and magnetic clips, I can model writing strategies for my class and involve them in shared writing.
Currently, I model writing on the whiteboard. I want students to be more involved in adding to our writing examples, but they cannot reach most parts of the whiteboard. This easel will make our writing lessons more interactive and engaging because students can participate more.
The other disadvantage of modeling writing on the whiteboard is that the whiteboard needs to be erased to make room for different things, like writing the independent assignment or other parts of the lesson. With this easel, I can leave our writing examples up for students to see throughout our writing unit. I will be able to show them how to add to their writing, revise, and edit their writing. For my multilingual students, having a concrete model to refer to when writing their own sentences will be tremendously helpful.
Also included in this project is a book with paragraph writing lessons and activities. This will help my students who are stronger writers work on organizing and structuring their writing, which I have noticed they need help with.
With these resources, I hope to help give all my budding authors what they need. I can't wait to see how much my students can grow as writers!
