The WRITE STUFF! Daily Interactive Writing Center

Help me give my students a writing center to give daily opportunities where students can explore writing, work together and make connections about letters and letter sounds. This writing center will stationed in the room and open daily.

My Students

My students start the year learning to identify letters and recognize/produce letter sounds. By the end of the year they are able to spell many simple words and phonetically spell nearly any word they want to write about. Most kinders start the year with some exposure to letters and their sounds either due to preschool, language-rich experiences they are exposed to at home or programs like HeadStart. COVID has kept young children at home electing either by choice or by circumstance not to participate in programs like HeadStart, preschools etc. The children I have this year are starting kindergarten with delays in their academic and social growth. This is different from years past. I imagine this delay will last for several years as we get to the other side of this pandemic.

My Project

A writing center that will change daily and offer students opportunities to experiment with various forms of writing.

Students will be able to practice concepts taught in class using the tools purchased with this donation.

Tools such as the light box, scented markers, interactive tools, and sentence strips.

My goal with this writing center is to engage my students in creating communication that is visual, tactile, verbal and written. I believe that a center focusing on these skills will enhance their language and phonological skills that have been delayed by COVID.
