Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
A picture speaks a thousand words and my students have so much to tell in both drawings and words. With sketchbooks and artist pencils they will be able to record worlds both real and imagined. Give a young artist a place to work, dream and live on paper.
My students are all in a Visual Arts program and many travel as much as one hour each way to attend an audition free public visual and performing arts program.
Our students are bright, respectful motivated and engaged. We are located in downtown Los Angeles with an exciting art world, but buying art supplies is a challenge for our low income students.
This gift will give the most needy students access to the basic materials of the visual arts. Our students are extremely excited about going on sketching field trips locally and to museums. They will now have a place to collect their plans, drawings and ideas in a unified place-- their sketchbooks.
My Project
I am requesting 66 sketchbook + artist pencil sets. Each set will be issued to a student and will be used for class projects, sketching outside, sketching on field trips and most importantly, drawing at home. Your gift has the potential for 100's of artworks per student. Students love sketchbooks, and they are also important documents in applying for art schools. You will be giving many young artists an important creative working space inside their own sketchbook.
The most important part of education is for students to have direct access to what they need. They quickly take ownership of the learning. Sketchbooks are a place to think, write, create and they become a cherished document of student progress. Please challenge my students to fill the blank pages and discover themselves!
